The rules we all hate them, but we also all need them!
0. DON'T BE A DICK.
This is the golden rule. Obey this rule and everything will be easy. Being verbally aggressive is okay in the middle of a heated argument, and similar small infractions can be tolerated, but being mean for the sake of being mean is grounds for an instant temporary (for small, isolated occurences) or permanent (for repeated ry) ban. Trolls are not welcome, and acting or identifying yourself as one will not go unpunished.
1. No griefing.
Do not grief people or their creations. It's pointless, immature and silly. The server is constantly being backed up and there is a rollback mechanism in place, so not only are you violating Rule 0, you are also leaving no mark of your wrongdoings. You will lose trust and respect, things that are hard to gain. You will also receive an instant, permanent ban.
Building destructive booby traps that are triggered by the victim is griefing. Killing another player's animals (except in exceptional circumstances, which are decided on a case-by-case basis) is griefing.
Creeper accidents happen to us all. If you're involved in a creeper incident which destroys another person's construction, you have not broken this rule, IF: 1. You try to fix as much damage as possible, and help the owner of the construction to repair it, and 2. If the owner is not online, you leave a sign, with your name, stating that a creeper accident has happened. (What applies to creepers also applies to ghasts and other explosive monsters. Do not, however, spawn a wither next to someone elses castle without their permission. That *is* griefing.)
2. No stealing.
Do not steal from people. If they don't lock their chest, don't take stuff from it without their permission.
3. No PVP.
Only PVP somebody if they accept the fight in the first place. Currently, there are no PVP hours.
4. No admin impersonation.
Don't pretend you are an admin. It's plain old immature. The only people with any sort of admin power are austin397 and oat_cookies.
5. No cheating.
Hacking/glitching/bug abuse of any kind is not tolerated. If you are one who points out cheaters or glitches/bugs within the server or the mod, there may be some kind of reward.
6. Respect.
Treat people nicely even if you don't wish to be treated nicely. We maintain a welcoming environment on the server. See Rule 0.
7. Have Fun
It's cliche but do it anyway. Your stay will be much more enjoyable if you do.
SLEEP CODES:
On PistonCraft, we prefer to sleep through the night, and automatically assume that every player will either be sleeping or logging out. If you need to stay up, for monster fighting or whatever, say so.
On PistonCraft's predecessor, a code system was developed to assist in sorting out sleeping arrangements. It consists of two phrases:
- "flux time" is a question, that roughly means "Are we sleeping tonight?". Answer it either with a "yes" or "no".
- "warp nine" is the more important phrase, that means "I am sleeping." Use it when you're already in bed. If you can't use a bed, *log out* until the night is over.
These phrases were taken from popular culture that deals with time travel: "flux time" refers to the time-altering element of a flux capacitor, and "warp nine" refers to the time-altering element of faster-than-light travel.
Purposefully refusing to sleep or log out without having a legitimate reason (such as killing monsters, or admiring lighting) is both frowned upon and a possible violation of rule 0.
